Whereupon, I hold out as long as possible before inserting the Q word. Your Regatta is exquisite! If I were not a fiber person I'd rather not know that wasn't your total concept from the start of those little squares. As for what I call myself or what others call me, I rarely say I'm an artist except on my income tax form and when I'm at an opening or show and someone is looking for the 'artist' of a certain piece. Otherwise I just work with clay and fibers.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01364409485592210668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-32361473413660808332011-04-01T17:27:26.710-04:002011-04-01T17:27:26.710-04:00Wow! I just had a discussion about this with someone this morning. This discussion has been going on too long for us QUILTERS! There I said it. I myself find Fiber Art to be more accepted by mainstream artists than art quilt. However as you explain your work you seem forced to use the word quilt to explain the piece so what is the answer to this long standing question?Barbara Strobel Lardonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08314713622021695107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-37639395811938857982011-04-01T15:52:24.550-04:002011-04-01T15:52:24.550-04:00I like your piece. But I haven't figured out a better response yet. Maybe because people aren't sure what "fiber" means is an advantage -- I don't want them to leap to the grandma-making-quilts conclusion quite so soon.

Sandy -- the exhibit is up May 1 - July 3.
Your other comments prompt many thoughts, which I will write about tomorrow morning.kathynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-40730045618365259702011-04-01T08:21:28.424-04:002011-04-01T08:21:28.424-04:00well done for being able to make the description p...well done for being able to make the description precise.

how long is the exhibition on? I am wondering about the dating aspect of the comments about current events. Were these things on your mind when you made the piece?
Not to be too picky I hope, but it might be better to just go on from mentioning the delicate strings to the comments in the second paragraph about the fragility of life. people will make their own connections.
Sandy in the UKSandyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04978514536651961190noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-42840158835638024042011-04-01T07:19:56.482-04:002011-04-01T07:19:56.482-04:00When pitching your elevator speech, it's usefu...When pitching your elevator speech, it's useful to think where the listener is coming from. I have never described my work as "fiber" (or "fibre" based. It's just not part of the Australian lexicon and, even to me, it conjures up visions of wool which rarely features in my work.Brenda Gael Smithhttp://serendipitypatchwork.com.au/blognoreply@blogger.com
