And since my accountant is my mother this can be quite an hard thing to deal. I can't send her a "don't stress" email ;)

I've decided to open my vat position because I was selling my items, I had a good number of customers and a good income. But i didn't want to work "illegally" so I decided to open my vat.
I opened my vat and PUFF all my customers disappeared. At that time I've made my "big mistake" I've lost lot of energy trying to do things that people "would like to buy". I've lost my "inner voice".

I think that I should come back to what I really want and like to do.
Yes I need to make money, but finally this year I've covered my expenses, so this is not a total fail.
When I wrote to the quiltart I was very depressed, also because I had a phone call from my mum that terrified me with her "your business is going bad" song.

Surely I need to make more money for the next year, when I'll have to pay taxes not based on what I'll earn but based on the base of what I should earn (silly thing I know), but I think I can do that.
I've had so much nice hints and comments from you and other quilt-artists, I know I'm not a fail, I think I can grow and make my business bigger.

Thank you a lot for your hints :)Silvia "OrkaLoca" Dell'Aerehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13406117918670414621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-20009970111267423212011-02-11T11:52:09.884-05:002011-02-11T11:52:09.884-05:00Helen, you're absolutely right. But I do think there need to be signs of life, and the writer did have some urgency about being able to make some money. It's a difficult position to be in.kathynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-72316171319617750362011-02-11T11:24:19.324-05:002011-02-11T11:24:19.324-05:00And one year is a seriously short time to make a b...And one year is a seriously short time to make a business work. I reckon on at least 5 for any new venture - mine are evolving gently as I change my ways. It took at least 5 years before my teaching income was commensurate with the work I put in, and I have never had a problem with groups asking me to return.. Keep on trucking, darlings..

Helen HowesUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16770197787308741994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-82138623324349067982011-02-10T10:21:32.285-05:002011-02-10T10:21:32.285-05:00Outstanding post Kathleen!Outstanding post Kathleen!Gisela Townerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053828856433390157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-22366551610131333802011-02-10T09:56:21.321-05:002011-02-10T09:56:21.321-05:00thanks for this post - excellent questions for sma...thanks for this post - excellent questions for small business owners to consider in setting their goals/marketing plans, etc.

I will be printing this post off to ponder while working on my year end/taxes and deciding what my priorities will be for the upcoming year

Thanks again!Louise in SW Saskatchewanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05650172312991490680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-62888802792189288272011-02-10T04:04:53.317-05:002011-02-10T04:04:53.317-05:00I don't try to make money from what is my hobb...I don't try to make money from what is my hobby, but if I did I hope that I'd have a friend like you to ask me these types of questions before I set out!
What a thoughtful and thought provoking post.Plum Coxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00256310916540057337noreply@blogger.com
