Seriously.

I wonder if they think that people taking photos will somehow reduce the attendance of the show. I'm always happy to see people's photos of shows as I will never be able to go to them. Even in my own city, it is likely that with a concerted effort, I would only get to a few shows in a year. And we have tons of galleries, and several museums in the area. So I am happy to view what others enjoy. I was happily snapping (no flash) photos of details when the guard strolled up and politely asked if I missed the "no photos" sign. Which I truly did, as the minute I got to the entrance, I was focused on the quilts and did not see the little tiny sign they had posted. I did buy the catalog/book but I was disappointed in it, as it was only distance shots and no details. I asked why no photos and was told it was copyright issues with the loaning museum, so I suspect they wanted to sell books. I agree, having those "shoot it, share it" signs all over and then not allowing photos of some things, esp. if signs are not clear, is confusing and confounding. I can understand if flash photos are not allowed though.

It's also an interesting take on the museum's part that a bad photo someone else took would reflect badly on their work. Unless they really *are* not properly showing items and don't want it known.JustGailhttp://justgail.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-588118538433483895.post-41403550528333360092017-12-13T10:31:50.281-05:002017-12-13T10:31:50.281-05:00a number of years ago when I had a solo show in a...a number of years ago when I had a solo show in a museum I was amazed to find they did not allow people to photograph the work. I enquired saying I was happy to have my work photographed. Their reply was no photography because if people put up images that looked not well lit or just bad images it might look as if the museum had done a bad job of hanging the show. Interesting view on this matter. Irene in Northern Ireland.irene macwilliamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11758839710333575379noreply@blogger.com
