I have no idea what it is -- just something I walked past. I can reliably identify maple, oak and ginkgo trees, provided they still have their leaves. Everything else is a mystery.
When I saw this picture before I read the title, I was thinking, "Burnt-out silk velvet with dark grey appliques and coral beads." It really could translate to fabric. It also resembles eucalyptus bark, but I don't think you have them in Kentucky?
