Just for a change...

The Bluegrass Biennial is an all-mediums juried show held at Morehead State University in Morehead KY, and I have been privileged to have work accepted into it several times.  Wednesday night was the reception and gallery talk by the juror, Andrea Fisher, who is gallery director at Transylvania University in Lexington.

Before she talked about individual pieces in the show, she gave us her three main observations about the show:  "One: we have amazing fiber art in Kentucky!"

That's right, her first and foremost observation had to do with fiber art!  What a refreshing change from the usual case in which fiber art takes a back seat to the paintings and sculptures!

In this show, fiber art was definitely in the front seat.  Thirteen of fifty pieces in the show were fiber; best in show went to a handwoven piece by Dobree Adams.

Here are some of the other fiber pieces in the show:

Pat DaRif, Other (detail below)

Christine Levitt, Stones and Strings (detail below)

Deborah Levine, Your Slip Is Showing (detail below)

I'll show you more work tomorrow.
