Working on ornaments again!
This used to be a cross-stitch linen tablecloth, pre-printed with a design for embroidery. Then somebody started embroidering, and it was a half-finished cross-stitch tablecloth. Then that person got tired of embroidering, or walked in front of a bus, and the tablecloth made its way to one of the various grab bags that I have been the recipient of. Then it sat in my studio for a while.
But now it's happy; I have cut out the middle, unembroidered part and it has found its new life as the material for my 2014 Christmas ornaments. Yes, I'm sewing on them (not giving away too much of the secret) and the linen is getting all limp and delicious in my hands.
Perhaps you have been reading this blog long enough to know that every year I do Christmas ornaments for a lot of friends and family -- this year the list is just over 50.
In a good year I might be pretty much finished in September; in a bad year I might be madly sewing the last ones the week before Christmas. I guess this is a medium-bad year, with plenty of work yet to go and already halfway through November. But I have little on the calendar in the next couple of weeks, and a bunch of new trash TV on my DVR, so I don't feel frantic. Yet.
As I have in previous years, I'm going to have an ornament giveaway for blog readers, so leave a comment between now and Friday and I'll choose at least one winner, maybe more if I pick up speed toward the end of the project.
Your work is so unique and special, anyone receiving an ornament from you would be honored! Have fun and hope frantic doesn't enter into the picture!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy...
ReplyDeleteHave followed your ornaments stitching progress for years and know that those who receive the special work from you are hugely appreciative. I would be for sure - and thank you for all you do to promote, share and encourage us as we work in the fibre arts! A real treat to meet you in the Gallery Opening Night at QAQ and hear your talk at Springside.
Happy stitching... so unique this year!

Your ornaments are like my postcards. I stress myself over them but I can' imagine not doing them. People love them and I know your ornaments are loved too!
ReplyDeleteI was the lucky winner of an ornament last year! It dangles from my long arm quilting machine's light bar where I can admire it on regular basis. I'm looking forward to seeing what this year's ornament looks like. Thank you Kathy for your commitment to this blog. It is a delightful read for many, many reasons.
ReplyDeleteI don't do Christmas, or trees, but I do love linen..
ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love one. And, Happy Thanksgiving to you.
ReplyDeleteLinen ornaments - beauty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - I used to make ornaments every year with my kids, but I would love to be organised enough to do them as gifts. Can't wait to see what you make.
ReplyDeleteHow intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea Kathy. Thanks for sharing your gifts with the world.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to see my friend Margaret's work in your comments on the Q=A=Q show. Hope you don't have too much of a race to the finish line with your ornaments.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
