I've always read that doors and window trim are painted turquoise in the Southwest to ward off evil spirits. But they also look beautiful against adobe.
My sister took a picture of a turquoise gate in southern New Mexico. I wish I had it to share; it is gorgeous! Turquoise is such a classic for the southwest.
Are the blue gates significant locally to Santa Fe, or was it just coincidental as you were out and about with your camera?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea! I suspect the adobe-against-blue color scheme that you get from the sky is so pleasant that people want to repeat it in their homes.
