I generally don't like representational quilts, since I think it's difficult to depict real things in the fabric medium. But I'm always on the lookout for fiber artists who do a good job with this problematic assignment. Here are my awards for representational work:
Best artist likeness: Alice Beasley herself, with Alice Beasley on her quilt
Alice Beasley, Entre Nous
Best animal likeness:
Carol Goossens, The Conversation
Best Fauvist painting likeness:
Jean Evans, My Space

Ohhh I love love love Alice's work!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love Alice's necklace! It looks like she picked up part of your Spaghetti Sauce and hung it around her neck.
ReplyDeleteMary Anne in Kentucky
Jean Evans' work is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteJean Evans' quilt was made entirely by hand -- and rather than applique the pieces to a ground, she simply appliqued them to each other, which I found extraordinary. Glad you liked it!
