I've always read that doors and window trim are painted turquoise in the Southwest to ward off evil spirits. But they also look beautiful against adobe.
My sister took a picture of a turquoise gate in southern New Mexico. I wish I had it to share; it is gorgeous! Turquoise is such a classic for the southwest.
I've been doing daily art for a long time, and everything since 2010 is documented in my other blog. This year it's painting. Click on the photo to check it out.

About me
I make abstract art -- usually with a needle but sometimes with a pen, brush or camera, scissors and glue, pliers and wirecutters, whatever is there. I have a husband, two sons, seven sewing machines, a big messy studio and lots of other people's art. Life is good!
Are the blue gates significant locally to Santa Fe, or was it just coincidental as you were out and about with your camera?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea! I suspect the adobe-against-blue color scheme that you get from the sky is so pleasant that people want to repeat it in their homes.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great feature ! The blue looks wonderful against the blue sky and the neutral walls.
