Happy New Year!

Do I tell you all frequently enough how much I love you?  I'm starting the tenth year of this blog and the reason I stick with it is because it's so gratifying to make contacts with so many internet friends around the world.  If not for you faithful followers, there would be no reason for me to blog, but with you out there reading, it's a never-ending conversation that enriches my life and, I hope, maybe enriches yours too.

Last week I posted about people having trouble leaving comments on my blog and received many responses -- some came to me by email because, guess what, people had trouble leaving comments on the blog.  I'm going to try to tweak my settings in the coming weeks to make that easier and may be asking you to be guinea pigs, but not now.

One of the commenters said that she hates it when you leave a comment on a blog and the writer never responds.  Perhaps I am guilty of that sin, because I don't reply to every comment.  I don't enjoy reading blogs where the comment sections are dialog:
Reader 1:  I liked this post
         Blogger:  Thanks for commenting!
Reader 2:  I hated this post
         Blogger:  Thanks for commenting!
Reader 3:  Your quilt looks wonderful.
         Blogger:  Thanks for commenting!
Reader 4:  I also hated this post
         Blogger:  Thanks for commenting!

But I do read every word that you post, and I always respond to questions and debates that show up in the comments.  Mostly I do it in a new blog post -- because if you leave a comment, and I respond in the comment section, how are you going to find it?   Unless you keep it in your mind -- gee, Kathy owes me an answer -- and keep going back to see whether she has given you one yet -- you may never get my snappy comeback.  And other readers won't either.

A couple of those issues will show up in the next week or so, because you asked.  Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, I hope we can all have a good year ahead, full of art and full of friends.

  1. Answering in another post works for me! You are right, I'm not going to remember, usually, if I responded to a post and rarely do I go back to see if there is an answer. It is really frustrating to try to leave a comment to a post and not be able to. I sure hope you, and those who are computer savvy readers, can figure out what the problem is. Computer problems are so frustrating!!

  2. I like when comments are replied through email instead of a post. That way I don't have to come back to see if there is a reply. (It is hard enough to find time to read posts the first time around, there is no way I am going back for a second look.) The email also helps me make sure people know I saw their comment and I can say more personal things and have a dialogue.

  3. Happy New Year Kathy, I always read your posts with great interest and your work inspires me a lot! I usually don’t leave comments because I find the verification process very tiring...

  4. Apparently you and many others have missed that under the box where one enters a comment there's. a "notify me" with a box you can check. If you check it, every time a comment is added it will be sent to your email address. You never have to go back to the blog post unless of course you need a refresher. If I remember correctly, besides including the comment & who made it, it also provides a link if you want to make an additional comments. Most Blogs offer this comment notification and it is such a timesaver over the previous way of remembering to keep checking back.

Even so, I must admit I enjoy your posts that are in response to a bevy of comments from a previous post. And I too tire of comments that add nothing to the content of the post. And if you want to laud or diss something I've made or said, at least make an effort to describe why. I'm always pleased at positive responses (and respect the brave who express negative ones) but it's more helpful for them to go beyond "beautiful" or "wow" or "tuck". I enjoy the conversations we can have that may be helpful to all.

  5. Happy New Year! I read your posts every day, but I only respond about 20% of the time, mostly because it takes time to give you a worthy reply....and I’ve got daily art to get to.
Thank you for spending time to bring us an informative, funny, inspiring blog post about art, the universe, and everything!

  6. Happy New Year Kathy and congratulations on ten years of blogging. You are one of my favorites! I agree that what keeps a blogger going is the ability to connect with readers. I hope we get to enjoy your musings for another ten years!

  7. I enjoy your blog. I try to comment now and then.
I don't know if your cataract surgery has been scheduled yet? anyway, I had my 2nd one yesterday. It wasn't as good of an eye as I thought, and had a mild cataract. But they wanted to also correct the distance vision so it would be near to the vision of the first eye.
I have to wait 4-6 weeks for an eye test, so I was panicking about not being able to see or read or write. so, we went today and I bought two £1 pair of reading glasses. Already very helpful. One will be in my handbag so I can use them when out and about.
More of a comment than you wanted to know! But we did have a bit of a conversation going in bits and pieces about the cataract situations.
    Happy New Year!

  8. I'm encouraged to read that you think a blog is still a viable way to connect with others. For so many it seems to have had its day and folks are onto the next "big" thing. For what it's worth, I'll keep reading your blog. Here's to another 10 years.
