Multiple choice

So which version of my Quilt National quilt do you like best?

At the opening reception on Friday night it was upside down, but got rehung overnight. I am embarrassed to report that I was in the room for an hour and a half, including standing in front of my quilt and picking a couple of stray threads off it, before I noticed the problem.

Tune in tomorrow to see whether you agree with me, or more accurately, whether you agree with the version I submitted to the show.  Several people told me they were perfectly happy with the upside-down version, and I guess I must have been too, since I didn't immediately realize there was anything wrong.

In a surprising coincidence, the same thing happened to my friend Marti Plager, who has been in the same small critique/support group with me for more than a dozen years.  The same, both in that her quilt was hung upside down, and that she didn't even notice it for at least an hour.  We certainly are attentive, aren't we?  But I neglected to document both versions of her piece.

  1. I like both of them! Perhaps the one with the light part at top just a tad better, but not Really. Wouldn't that be something - a dyptich or triyptich with all those versions. For that, though, I would alter the direction of the border between the two colours in one of them. Then you can hang them whichever combination you want them to be at different venues. Great work! Congrats.

  2. I like it upside down :). Why did you choose the orientation with the light on the bottom?

  3. Think I like it better with dark portion at top...adds more intrigue. Quite interesting either way, though.

  4. so, what's the hanging mechanism, forgive my QN ignorance. i've always had to sleeve my quilts meaning it can't be hung the wrong way up... the sleeve means "top", for the rod... ahem... Lisa

  5. I like it with the dark part on top. I think when you can view a piece upside down with no jarring affect, that the piece has good balance. Do you agree?

  6. It is a very balanced piece and I'd say it works either way. Very nice!!!

  7. I agree with Terry - it works either way. I assume you had two sleeves - top and bottom.

  9. After opening both versions up and looking at them side by side I can say that I do like the original the best, more dynamic How fun that either way works and that you were comfortable with both.
